The Mets pitchers flop

In just two games the Mets have fallen to .500 after losing to the Marlins, 7-6. Starter John Maine gave up eight hits and four runs in five innings while throwing 92 innings. Command problems?

His replacement, Jenrry Mejia, who really should be getting more seasoning in the minors, surrendered three hits and a run in one inning. Both Shawn Green and Hisanori Takahashi also failed to impress. As the season progresses, the weaknesses in the pitching staff will only magnify.

On the hitting side, though the Mets scored six runs, but not one player had more than one hit. Mike Jacobs again struck out twice, and the Mets top of the order, Cora and Castillo, appear to have left the pop in their bats in Florida. Combined, they were 1 for 6.
