Minaya continues to pursue players in their thirties

Rumor has it that the Mets are close to signing knuckleballer R.A. Dickey to a Minor League contract. Dickey's a 35-year reliever who split his 2009 season with both the Twins and their Triple-A affiliate. Though it's only a Minor League contract, too many of those signings have made it onto the Mets roster.

The more I witness the Mets hesitance to spend money, the more I wonder how much the Madoff scandal has affected the Wilpons. Otherwise, why's Minaya penny-pinching? Or have the Wilpons placed Minaya on a strict budget after he paid $36 million for Oliver Perez, a questionable investment, and $26 million for Luis Castillo, a player whom the Mets seem willing, but unable, to trade?

To restore fan confidence, the team needs an overhaul, starting at the top.
