On paper, the Mets signing of Gary Sheffield looks like a good move; however, the 40-year-old's skills have been on the decline since 2005. Last season with the Tigers, he hit only .225 in 418 at bats. However, he still managed to hit 19 homers and drive in 57 runs. In 2008, only three Mets hit more homers while four drove in more RBIs.
Sheffield's signing means that the Mets will have to remove a player from the roster. That should happen in the next day or two.
