Mets make offer to Tim Redding

According to the New York Mets Web site, the team has extended a contract offer to Tim Redding. Last season in 33 starts with the Washington Nationals, Redding won 10, lost 11, had a 4.95 ERA, and a 1.43 WHIP. Among the seven pitchers who started last season for the Nats, Redding won the most games and had the third best ERA. He also surrendered the most home runs (27) and led the team in strikeouts (120).

In 2008 the Mets hit .246 against Redding with a .785 OPS. If Redding signs with the Mets, Brian Schneider will especially miss facing him. Last season, Schneider hit two of his nine homers off Redding.

On the negative side, Phillies batters did even better against Redding, hitting .272. The Braves hit .271, and the Marlins hit .340.

Does Minaya really view Redding as an upgrade?
