Another Mets low-budget move

Minaya's low-budget signings continue.

The Mets just signed corner outfielder Rob Mackowiak to a minor-league contract. Last season he played in 38 games for the Washington Nationals. He batted .132. However, before he was traded to the Padres in 2007, Mackowiak had some decent seasons with the Pirates. In 2004 he hit 17 homers and drove in 75 RBIs, but he hit only .246. Unfortunately, his strikeouts far exceed his walks. In three seasons he struck out more than 100 times.
