I'm disappointed that the Mets just shelled out $12 million a year for three years for a pitcher who won just 10 games last season. True, Oliver Perez won 15 games in 2007, but he's not a pitcher that's going to power them to a pennant.
It appears that the Mets were the only team interested in signing him after he became a free agent. That says a lot.
The Mets would have been better off taking the $36 million they'll be paying to Perez and using that money to increase their offer to Derek Lowe, who instead signed with the Braves.
Mets fans: If you expect the Mets to win in 2009, LOWER your expectations.
