In his last 10 games, Savannah's Albert Cordero has averaged .513. Eight of those games have been multi-hit, and in three of the last five he got three hits. Further, he didn't strike out once and has an OPS of 1.315. He's been especially effective in home games, batting .344, which is 117 points higher than he's hitting on the road.
In contrast, 2010 third-round pick Blake Forsythe is again struggling with the bat. In his last 10, he hit .243 and struck out 16 times. This season, the right-handed batter has only been able to hit .218 against lefties. Surprisingly, he's hitting 94 points higher in away games. At home, he's batting only .190.
Both players are on the roster as catchers. Just from the numbers, Cordero should be behind the plate in home games and Forsythe in the away games.

A Look at Two Mets Minor Leaguers Drafted in 2010
When the Mets drafted Norm Forsythe last year, I had doubts about whether he was worth being a third-round selection. With the Cyclones last season, he hit only .238 in 101 at bats; however, his slugging percentage was only .396. Despite that performance, the Mets promoted him to Savannah. This season with the Gnats, he's batting .213 in 108 at bats with a .361 slugging percentage. He's yet to show that he could be the Mets catcher of the future. In contrast, J. B. Brown, the second baseman who was drafted in the 14th round of the same draft, hit .308 in his first season (with the Cyclones) and, this season, is hitting .313 with St. Lucie, though his OBP has slipped from .800 to .688. For some reason, his 2011 minor league season didn't begin until May 15. Injury?

Quick Hits
☛ The Mets might want to stop playing games in Puerto Rico. They were lucky to win yesterday after their pitchers surrendered 17 hits. Pelfrey gave up 12 of them in just 4.2 innings during which he threw 108 pitches.
☛ Cory Vaughn had another big day for the Cyclones, getting two hits, including a triple. He upped his average to .298.
☛ The Mets signed their second 2010 draftee, Blake Forsythe, who played his college ball for Tennessee. It appears he'll play for the GCL Mets (who already have three catchers on the roster, all hitting at least .333); however, the section of the Mets website that lists its 2010 draftees doesn't even include Forsythe on the list. But then, when it comes to updating their draft section, the team's not that detail-oriented. If you check the 2009 list you'll notice that the Mets still show their second selection in that draft, Robbie Shields, as unsigned. Shields is playing for the GCL Mets, hitting .259.
☛ Steve Winnick pitched in his second game for the GCL Mets yesterday. He still hasn't surrendered either a hit or a walk. The Mets drafted Winnick this past June in the 31st round.
