Leathersich Makes Pro Debut

In his pro debut yesterday with the Brooklyn Cyclones, Jack Leathersich, the Mets fifth-round draft choice in 2011, pitched one inning and struck out all three batters he faced. One struck out swinging, the other two, looking.

Fellow draftee, shortstop Danny Muno (who was drafted in the eighth round) got two hits, upping his average to .345.

☛ Baseball America reports that the Mets have signed Matthew Budgell, their tenth-round pick. Budgell is a righthanded pitcher out of Irvine, CA with a 92 mph fastball.

The Mets have now signed six of their top ten picks.
