It's early in the season, but the Mets continue to fail to hit in the clutch. Minaya needs to start thinking about shaking up the team. He needs to start thinking outside the box. That could include seeing what other teams would offer for David Wright. If the Mets could get a top corner outfielder, the team could then move Daniel Murphy to third base. Further, they should seek a quality starting pitcher who's better than Maine, Pelfrey, Perez, and Hernandez. Finally, they should seek draft choices, though there's no guarantee that Minaya will make wise draft decisions. The team cannot afford to draft another Ike Davis, a first baseman who's only been able to hit singles and doubles since joining the Mets organization last season.
Two of the better teams in baseball this season, Florida and Tampa Bay, have shown how a focus on youth, smart trades, and good draft moves can turn a team into a contender without having to break the bank.
