When Dominican Republic manager Felipe Alou chose Hanley Ramirez as the starting shortstop in the first game of the World Baseball Classic over Jose Reyes, he was making a subtle statement. But then, Ramirez is the better player. Just look at their stats for 2008. Ramirez is a better hitter; Reyes is a better fielder. However, the difference between their hitting stats is more noticeable than the difference between their fielding stats.
