Another puzzling Mets move

Yesterday, Minaya made another puzzling move. He claimed Fernando Nieve off waivers from the Houston Astros.

In 2008, Nieve pitched in 11 games for the Astros after missing 2007 because of Tommy John surgery. In 10.2 innings Nieve gave up 10 earned runs, 17 hits, and two walks. He spent most of 2008 in Triple-A, posting a 5.72 ERA in 72.1 innings.

This Spring, in 4.2 innings he gave up seven hits, six earned runs, and six walks. His ERA was 11.57. Since last season, at the Major League level, Nieve has given up at least a run an inning. I can't see what value he's going to add to the Mets. I'd rather have seen the team keep Duaner Sanchez.
